DIY tutorial authorship is critical to the success and vitality of DIY practices. In a series of studies, we examined how tutorial authorship is one way to maintain and improve the quality of tutorials in DIY practices. Additionally, we aimed to explore the role interaction designers can play as hybrid designer that mediate between author and audience to contribute to the improvement of practices of tutorial authorship in DIY. We investigated antecedents in DIY to help describe the notion of a hybrid designer in DIY practices, and we critically investigated tutorials through the building and analysis of ten DIY projects and tutorials.
